Yet another invitation that must be lost in the mail: U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Tom Kalil, deputy director for Policy for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy are meeting educators, district leaders and various edtech gurus today for an Open Education Symposium at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. Central to all this is Tech&Learning advisor Andrew Marcinek, the former director of technology for Grafton Public Schools and now the DOE’s first OER advisor. The nut? Districts shunning textbooks for tech that gives them access to any and all content available online, for free. Yes, the death of traditional curriculum has been predicted since the first issue of Tech&Learning 35 years ago. Maybe now we’re finally right. —Kevin Hogan,
