When Business, Personal Time Intersect

The recent suspension of an Okaloosa County (FL) School District employee for conducting personal business on district time raises questions over district policies.

Lisa Nall, a technology trainer, was suspended for five days without pay for using district time and e-mail service to market and conduct business for Tastefully Simple, which sells ready-made gourmet meals and desserts.

Mike Foxworthy, the district's chief human resource officer, said the district is fairly lax on the issue, although Nall's case was different than most because she was using district computers and time to do work for another company.
