A Packet For Substitute Teachers

A Packet For Substitute Teachers

There are always those emergencies when you can't make it in to work, but you, and even worse, your supervisor, realize that you haven't left a full day's work for the substitute. Here is a bag of tricks to keep in a folder on your desk for just such days. The author has prepared a complete resource for the beleaguered substitute teacher called in at 7:00 AM to face an unfamiliar class. Entries include Chalkboard Topics for the Talkers and the Bored, a collection of quizzes, puzzles, riddles, games, stories, topics for discussion, and topics for writing assignments. Do your substitute friend a favor and also put in your folder "Ideas for a Rookie" (or even a seasoned substitute). There are some controversial ideas here to use for severely disruptive students and classes. Teachers have written in with their own questions and the author has provided some helpful ideas. All in all, it's a good reminder of what substitute teachers face. Even the most angelic class can become unruly for the unknowing substitute.
