UNC School of Education: Sale! Sale! Sale!

Doing a lesson on consumer math is a great way to show students the relevance of what they are learning. This lesson does not require anything out of the ordinary—just some ads from the newspaper, and other supplies already in the classroom. The mathematical concepts that are used are knowledge of fractions, decimals, and percentages, as well as knowing how to multiply them. Help your students become informed consumers by teaching them how to compare prices of similar products which are offered for sale at different places.
