(Salt Lake City, UT) March 10, 2016Reading Horizons, committed to providing an effective reading curriculum to educational institutions for more than 30 years, today announced version 7 of its interactive platform Reading Horizons Discovery™. The latest iteration of Reading Horizons Discovery provides teachers with new resources to give K–3 students a solid foundation for reading success.

The new features in Reading Horizons Discovery include a tool to guide the pacing of whole-class and small-group instruction, an assessment to provide a reading level for each student, and a new iPad app

The new Reading Horizons Discovery Check-Up assessments can be used to quickly determine the level of mastery for each student immediately after each skill lesson is taught. To track long-term progress, the Reading Horizons DiscoveryReading Assessment powered by the Lexile® Framework for Reading is available to give teachers a Lexile measure for each student. Results from the assessment can also be used by teachers and parents to select appropriately leveled books for each student. The new iPad app allows easy access for students before, during, or after school via an internet connection.

The research-based platform incorporates multi-sensory, Orton-Gillingham principles of instruction, along with a unique marking system, while using relatable characters to guide practice activities and give corrective feedback. Each of the skill lessons in the four grade-level tracks (K-3) includes a high-interest, decodable book accompanied by engaging games that help reinforce learning as readers apply newly acquired skills in a fun and rewarding way. Reading Horizons Discovery adapts lessons to meet the needs and skill levels of all students, and provides differentiated instruction as they progress through the program.

The new release offers expanded options for use in a variety of instructional settings: whole-class, small-group, intervention, and one-on-one settings; blended learning environments; classes for English language learners; afterschool and summer programs; and independent learning centers.

Reading Horizons Discovery fulfills 92% of the standards for foundational reading skills for K–3 students, as well as other standards outlined by the Common Core State Standards, and is correlated to the findings of the National Reading Panel.

The web-based software is accessible to students, teachers, and administrators from any location with an internet connection.
