Dremel, the trusted manufacturer of tools for life and learning, introduces its second-generation Dremel Idea Builder 3D40 printer to nurture these skills through the application of 3D printing in STEM instruction.

The Dremel Idea Builder 3D40 features multiple access points to enable simple and complete classroom implementation. Advancements include USB- and WiFi-enabled printing, active filament monitoring, a maintenance-free extruderand assisted leveling. A larger building platform enables greater flexibility in designing and scaling 3D models.

To provide students the freedom to design 3D objects remotely, the Dremel Idea Builder 3D40 will be compatible with the new Dremel 3D iOS and Android apps launching in May. The printer can also be used with Print Studio software, enabling students to optimize object design and make modifications based upon functionality.

“As classrooms continue to approach education through hands-on learning, the advancements we’ve made to the Dremel Idea Builder 3D40 provide an unprecedented experience with 3D printing technology,” said George Velez, manager, Dremel 3D Education. “We wanted to give educators and students the ability to engage with 3D printing in a limitless capacity.”

Accompanied by additional printing materials and accessories, the Dremel Idea Builder 3D40 is designed for immediate, out-of-the-box classroom implementation. The retail version (3D40-01) includes one Flash Drive with Print Studio software, build tape and environmentally friendly PLA filament. The EDU version (3D40-EDU) includes an added kit with 3D-specific curriculum loaded on a USB, two build plates, extra build tape and four filament spools in a variety ofcolors.

“I rely on the Dremel 3D Idea Builder to give my students the ability to design, test, print and modify high-quality product models,” said Matt Schultz, a technology and engineering instructor at Lakeview Technology Academy in Pleasant Prairie, Wis. “The speed and durability of the Dremel 3D printing process helps build critical problem-solving skills, where students have the opportunity to reflect upon product function and produce multiple iterations of a prototype.”

The Dremel Idea Builder 3D40 advancements are a part of Dremel’s full-circle approach to 3D printing in the classroom. Educators and students have access to several benefits, including curriculum lesson plans, one-on-one customer support and training, a one-year product warranty, and UL safety certification.

Last month, Dremel launched the Dremel Dreams program, a digital ecosystem that promotes a student-driven learning environment for 3D printing. The program equips educators with a comprehensive toolkit for classroom support, including 3D-specific lesson plans and intuitive design software and hardware.
