Improving Institutional Effectiveness - Higher Education Data Expert Provides Insight during Webinar Series this Fall

Charlotte N.C. – Aug. 18, 2017 – For colleges and universities, data is critical to everything from accreditation to student retention. Improving the effectiveness of an institution often means being smarter about how to gather, analyze and use that data. Dr. W. Allen Richman, senior director of research for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, will discuss how to use technology to improve the institutional effectiveness of a college or university during a free, four-part, live webinar series starting Sept. 7, 2017 and hosted by assessment company Apperson.

Dr. Richman serves as senior director for research at the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, an accrediting organization serving higher education institutions in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. He previously served as Interim Dean of Planning, Assessment and Institutional Research at Prince George’s Community College where he oversaw the implementation of an institution-wide assessment initiative for the continuous improvement of courses, programs and the institution as a whole. He has also worked as an assistant professor and assessment coordinator for Macon State College.

The webinar series will include:

·Part 1 – 2 p.m. Eastern Time Sept. 7, 2017: Creating Systems for Better Data Analysis. Dr. Richman will discuss how to systemize processes within administration so everyone knows who is handling which tasks, and bigger-picture issues of technology and system integration on campus.

·Part 2 – 2 p.m. Eastern Time Sept. 27, 2017: Using Technology for Just-in-Time Data. Dr. Richman will discuss the growing data demands that colleges and universities face and how they can adopt systematic approaches to data collection in order to share data efficiently and quickly.

·Part 3 – 2 p.m. Eastern Time Oct. 19, 2017: Institutional Research Requires a Systematic Approach to Data. Dr. Richman will discuss the changes in institutional research and how universities and colleges can stay ahead of these changes.

·Part 4 – 2 p.m. Eastern Time Nov. 8, 2017: Using Data to Improve Student Retention. Dr. Richman will discuss the shift in higher education from merely counting students to tracking their progress over time and how colleges and universities can use data to help students stay in school and earn a degree.
