ISTE Bestseller Co-Authored by Flipped Learning Pioneers Jonathan Bergmann and Aaron Sams
WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 17, 2013 – Today the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE®) announced that its bestselling book, “Flip Your Classroom: Reach Every Student in Every Class Every Day,” is a finalist for the ForeWord Reviews 2013 Book of the Year Awards in the education category. Co-authored by Jonathan Bergmann and Aaron Sams, considered the pioneers of flipped learning, the book was selected from 1,300 entries covering 62 categories of books from independent and academic presses.
“Recognition from a prestigious review organization, such as ForeWord Reviews, confirms what educators around the country already know: Jonathan and Aaron have written the definitive book on flipped learning,” said Brian Lewis, ISTE CEO.
Published by ISTE and ASCD, “Flip Your Classroom” first explains the birth of Bergmann and Sams’s own flipped high school chemistry classroom, which evolved out of a simple question: What if lectures were presented in video as homework and class time was spent helping students understand the content? The book follows Bergmann and Sams as they do just that and find that their students are demonstrating a deeper understanding of the material than ever before.
“ISTE 2013 is jam-packed with opportunities for attendees to discover more about flipped learning and the ways it is transforming classrooms around the country,” said Bergmann. “Our book gives them an easy-to-use guide for implementing what they learned when the new school year begins.”
Bergmann and Sams are presenting two concurrent sessions at ISTE 2013, both on Monday, June 24. Their session, “Through the Flipped Classroom: Transformation from the Bottom Up!,” from 4:15-5:15 pm, in San Antonio Convention Center (SACC) Room 217BC, will focus on how this grassroots effort is making learning the center of the classroom. The second session, “Flipped Learning Best Practices,” from 5:30-6:45 pm, in SACC Room 001A, will feature a lively discussion of best practices related to this revolutionary approach to classroom learning.
Commenting on the recognition from ForeWord Reviews, Sams said, “It is a terrific honor to have ‘Flip Your Classroom’ recognized among these other high quality education titles.”
