MIT Blossoms: How Mosquitoes Fly in the Rain

Challenge your students to use their knowledge of physics and biology to figure out how small insects like mosquitoes can fly through the rain with impunity. This site contains a video lesson presented by Dr. David Hu from the Georgia Institute of Technology. You’ll find a transcript of the video as well as a teacher’s guide which includes the learning objectives and the student pre-requisites. There are also four student activities with hints and solutions. Dr. Hu discusses the reasons why knowing the information about mosquitoes and raindrops is important in the development of microrobots and in understanding how weather affects mosquito flight patterns.
