Online social teaching platform debuts

A new free online site, described as a mashup of Facebook, Wikipedia and YouTube focused solely on education, is in its beta phase and looking for teachers who want to use a social learning environment to supplement their work in the classroom.

Sophia is an online social teaching platform that connects people who want to teach with people who want to learn. The site is accepting content that is organized by ‘learning packets’ – bite-sized collections of tutorials focused around a specific academic subject. Sophia was developed by a group of digital innovators, online education pioneers and academic advisors who had a vision to transform the student-teacher ratio from one teacher for every 30 students to 30 teachers per student.
