Free online university partners to expand access

Tuition-free University of the People (UoPeople) and the World Computer Exchange (WCE) have partnered in their shared missions of democratized access to education.

The collaboration will offer more prospective and current UoPeople students increased access to computers with Internet connections for their studies. Additionally, WCE will help promote UoPeople through its marketing channels, enabling the institution to target prospective students in new regions.

In over 71 developing nations, WCE, an education & environment nonprofit,deploys refurbished computers, provides on-line capacity building, and dispatches teams of tech and educational training professionals.

Based on the principles of e-learning and peer-to-peer teaching, coupled with open-source technology and courseware, UoPeople is designed to provide universal access to college studies. Enrollment is currently open for Term 1 of the 2010-2011 academic calendar.
