Speech Therapy brought to Rural CA District

With the nearest speech language pathologist more than 30 miles away in the town of Chico, the Glenn County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) turned to PresenceLearning to provide adequate coverage for their students needing services. PresenceLearning (www.presencelearning.com) is providing speech therapy services to 13 students at Willows Intermediate School in the Willow Unified School District, which is part of the SELPA.

“PresenceLearning has filled a significant void in finding speech pathologists,” said Vicki Shadd, Assistant Superintendent of Student Services/SELPA Director. “It has helped us to meet our goals of helping all of our students to reach their greatest potential.”

The school district has been using PresenceLearning since 2011 and, in addition to outstanding results, feedback from parents, students and staff has been positive. “We are confident that our upcoming IEP meetings will validate our students’ progress,” said Jennifer Wayman, Program Specialist for the SELPA. “Our assigned SLP is wonderful. She is collaborative and works with us to fit into the school’s existing infrastructure. She even plans to be present via video-conference when we run our day-long schedule of IEP meetings in the spring.”

Willows Intermediate School has 22 educators teaching 485 students and is one of four schools comprising the Willow Unified School District. Serving an extremely diverse population and variety of cultures, the school is committed to setting high expectations for all students and being a true school of achievement.
