Curses and Recurses! It’s Happening Again

Here’s a great lesson plan to work on basic recursion by using probability experiments. By using coin tosses and rolls of the dice, students make grids and and the “square model” to show the results of the actions. They then can form recursive and explicit equations. The lesson objectives are for students to be able to write a Now-Next equation and to use different equations to determine what is needed for a specific situation. Students will learn about the idea of waiting-time distribution and how it applies to probability.
