EconEdLink: Trade to the Tailor

Learning about economics can be a tough sell to young students. By using trade books, it makes the “dismal science” much more engaging and easier to understand. This lesson plan from the Council for Economic Education uses the book, A New Coat for Anna by Harriet Ziefert, to explain scarcity of product and money, bartering, resources, and decision making with a little post-World War II history thrown in. Includes a glossary to define key concepts, resources to use when teaching the lesson, an assessment activity, and ways to extend the lesson.
