In celebration of National Poetry Month, this great mini-lesson for grades 3-5 encourages students to explore line breaks in poetry, how the line breaks help in the understanding and presentation of the poem, and why line breaks make poetry different from prose. Letting students play with poetry increases their understanding not only of the poetry, but also how words, punctuation, and appearance work. ReadWriteThink includes the resources, instructional plan, and an interactive ready to use for this lesson.
