Charlotte N.C. – June 9, 2016 – Apperson’s Evo Social & Emotional assessment solution was named a winner last night in the 2016 Association of American Publishers REVERE Awards. The awards identify and honor high quality resources that educate learners of all ages, in all media, and in all educational environments, both in and beyond the classroom.
Evo SEL helps schools, districts, and after school programs throughout the country measure students’ social and emotional competencies. It won in the Supplemental Resources category for social-emotional and character learning. The Evo SEL application features the DESSA (Devereux Student Strengths Assessment), recognized as the gold-standard in SEL assessment.
“Social and emotional learning plays a key role in setting a student up for lifelong success,” said Bill Apperson, chairman of the board of Apperson. “Having Evo SEL recognized by the REVERE awards proves that it is a critical tool for educators to measure SEL skills.”
The REVERE (Recognizing Valuable Educational Resources) Awards identify outstanding educational products that engage today’s teachers and students. Products were judged by educators and industry professionals during a three-month-long evaluation process. Each product was reviewed against a comprehensive rubric promoting excellence in all areas of product design and development. Apperson introduced Evo SEL in response to a growing body of research showing that addressing students’ social and emotional needs has a positive impact on their academic performance and helps lay the foundation for lifelong success.
Evo SEL measures the SEL competencies of students in kindergarten through 8th grade. It is based on the Devereux Student Strengths Assessment (DESSA), a standardized, strengths-based measure of SEL competencies such as self-awareness, self-management, relationship skills and decision-making. Apperson provides an online platform for administering the DESSA and DESSA Mini, universal screeners that quickly identify students’ SEL competencies, and it provides resources to address SEL gaps. Evo SEL also provides data to help SEL program administrators measure the impact of their programs.
Apperson’s K-16 assessment solutions help educators develop a 360° panorama of the student and his or her strengths, as well as areas of opportunities, that can inform curriculum decision-making and create positive learning outcomes. Whether it’s DataLink scanners, or the Evo assessment platform, Apperson’s products support and encourage a holistic learning and development approach by helping educators turn assessment data into actionable information.
