The Georgia Department of Education has approved Carnegie Learning's vertically aligned sequence of middle school and high school textbooks and instructional software as adopted curricula through 2018.
Following a comprehensive K-12 Mathematics Textbook Adoption review process this year, the following materials aligned to the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS) are approved for purchase with state education funds:
- CCGPS Grade 6
- CCGPS Grade 7
- CCGPS Grade 8
- CCGPS Coordinate Algebra
- GPS Georgia Math 2 (CCGPS Analytic Geometry available for Fall 2013)
- GPS Georgia Math 3 (CCGPS Advanced Algebra available for Fall 2013)
This is the first adoption of mathematics resources under the new CCGPS standards implemented by the Georgia State Board of Education as part of the national Common Core State Standards initiative. The new standards are designed to provide a consistent framework that prepares students for success in college and the 21st century workplace. In addition to setting new, more rigorous expectations for student performance, the CCGPS also provide educators with a clear, focused set of expectations against which they can assess student progress.
"Carnegie Learning has provided performance-based resources in their mathematics instructional materials that align with the Common Core State Standards,” said Dr. Lya Snell, Henry County School District mathematics coordinator. “Teachers have used the Math I and Math II instructional materials as a supplement along with the Georgia Department of Education curriculum frameworks to ensure that the appropriate level of rigor is incorporated on a daily basis in the classroom."
Carnegie Learning programs are based on more than two decades of cognitive science research at Carnegie Mellon University. The curricula are designed to meet the new CCGPS objectives for increased student performance in mathematics and job-embedded support for teachers and administrators making the transition to the new common core standards.
Carnegie Learning® math curricula are currently implemented in schools in 48 states and in the following 17 states through instructional materials adoptions: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, and West Virginia.
