Library of Congress: Become a Historical Detective

Using firsthand evidence, be a "historical detective" and figure out the answer to the following: " Was Billy the Kid really killed by Pat Garrett at Fort Sumner, New Mexico?" Find prompts to start you on your search as well as clues and the solution to check your answer. This lesson shows how to develop a hypothesis, when to revise a hypothesis, and how to use the documents in the Library of Congress to find evidence to support or refute a hypothesis.
