How does wood become stone? Take a tour of the Petrified Forest National Park to find out the answer to that question. Read a brief history of the park to see who used to live in the area, when it was explored, and how it came to be designated as a national park.  There are many pictures of various logs and chunks of petrified wood which are beautifully colored. After getting your fill of the petrified wood, you can visit the other parts of the national park, the Painted Desert and Blue Mesa.
