Last night’s presidential debate was certainly a first for many reasons, most of which are hardly appropriate for the K-12 classroom. How can we, as educators, help students navigate this complicated discussion? There are some classroom-focused resources that can help. The New York Times posts a regularly-updated list here. PBS offers Seven Election Lesson Ideas & Resources and library media specialist Katherine Nelson lists her “5 Resources for the Upcoming Presidential Election” here. Scholastic offers ideas on how to host a mock election, along with a myriad of other resources for students as young as pre-K. These age-appropriate resources can help teachers navigate the uncharted waters of this election season. And, for the nostalgic among us, consider watching 1992’s presidential debate to see a very different kind of discussion. –Christine Weiser, Executive Editor
