Today's Newsletter: Closing the Digital Equity Gap

Yesterday’s announcement that Kajeet has expanded its partnerships to connect students on all four major U.S. 4G LTE wireless networks could be good news for those districts looking to close the digital equity gap. Last year, students spent 2.5 million hours connecting from Kajeet’s SmartSpot and SmartBus tech, allowing students filtered access to the web anytime and just about anywhere. At our June T&L Leadership summit, T&L advisor Diane Doersch, CTO of Green Bay Area Public Schools, discussed their work as early adopters of Kajeets. Her district made them available for check out after school at all of their school libraries; students could check a laptop and a Kajeet out for a limited number of days. Vicki Lyons, Technology Services Director at the School District of La Crosse, La Crosse, WI, said her district was using foundation funding to support Kajeet. (Read more on the Summit report here and find funding opportunities in our K-12 grants calendar here.) Digital equity will be the focus of our T&L Fall Leadership Summit in Nashville where district leaders will have the opportunity to share other innovative ways they have made strides toward achieving digital equity through innovative solutions. We look forward to this continued conversation. – Christine Weiser, Executive Editor
