Califone International, Inc. debuts its new smart document camera, which allows educators and students to create full multimedia presentations in the classroom. The Diggiditto Smart Document Camera is the first smart document camera whose software features image recognition capabilities. Once an image has been saved, placing the same image under the camera will automatically prompt the Diggiditto to reopen the saved image, which allows active sharing of high-resolution documents and images during video conferences and student-led presentations.

The Department of Biological Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and an artist organization called The Grafting Parlour will capture and transmit images of living cells using an AVerVision CP300 document camera and streaming video to the Lightwave 2009 event at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland.  Connecting to a microscope in the MIT Biological Engineering Lab, the camera captures live images of the bacteria, then broadcasts the images through the AVerVision Software and a third-party video streaming service for live viewing at Trinity College.
