21st Century Digital Globe

Question: One of our social studies teachers asked me recently for a recommendation for a globe software program that would let her show her students different parts of the world using her computer. Do you have any recommendations for her?

The IT Guy says:
For Windows users, it is hard to beat the free Google Earth software. Also, Macintosh and Windows users can utilize the commercial software 3D Weatherglobe, which offers additional functionality not found in Google Earth. This includes the ability to download live satellite cloud data from around the world for the entire earth, and dynamically “fly” routes across the earth like Columbus’ first voyage to North America or Amelia Earhart’s flight across the world.
