September 8 is International Literacy Day. Strategies for improving adolescent literacy are sometimes overlooked. These strategies can be used by any content teacher to help teens get a good handle on content-area reading. An overview introduces each strategy along with reference to the source of the strategy. In addition, the procedure used for introducing and using the strategy is enumerated. Most strategies also have examples of what the strategy looks like. Give your students tools for their literacy tool box to use throughout their middle school and high school years.
