At the not-for-profit DonorsChoice website, teachers submit project proposals for materials or experiences that their students need and concerned individuals step forward to fund them in whole or in part. To date (February 2007) donors have funded over $11 million in resources for students in need. Recently funded projects include take-home backpacks with cassette players and blank cassettes that make read-aloud practice as portable as possible.
