Historical Voices: Remembering the Flint Sit-Down Strike 1936-1937

A fascinating exploration of the United Auto Workers sit-down strike that took place at the General Motors plants in Flint, Michigan in 1936-1937. Oral histories were collected from many of the people who participated in, or observed, the strike. These recordings accompany the descriptive text, which is presented under three headings: how the strike was organized, the strike itself, and what happened after it was over. Some key recordings are also laid out on an interactive timeline. For a unit on American labor history, the recollections of the people who witnessed this famous strike are invaluable.
