Rethinking the Core

Looks like Tech&Learning’s selection of Randi Weingarten to this year’s most influential list was a good one. In her keynote speech at the AFT national convention in Los Angeles on Friday, Weingarten let it rip regarding testing, Common Core, accountability, and more: “[too many officials are] reducing children to test scores and teachers to algorithms…They call what comes out of that black box a 'value-added measurement,' or VAM. I call it a sham," said Weingarten. Time Magazine sees her words as ominous for the White House and efforts to implement the Common Core. Edweek wonders if the AFT will eventually call for Arne Duncan to step down. Should be more interesting news coming out of the convention the next few days.
