Laura Candler’s Books: Talking Sticks Book Discussion

8/20/2012 12:00:00 AM
Laura Candler, a teacher who has developed many lessons for primarily elementary and middle school students, offers this idea for getting kids to talk about books. Here she explains how to use “talking sticks” to allow for equal discussion in a small group. You can find the the materials you need here in the form of discussion questions that address the parts of a book to discuss, as well as critical thinking ideas. Directions for how the groups should proceed are also provided. These are in “Preview” mode and are available for purchase through her website, but you can easily use the ideas from this site.
