Discovery Education Marks Pi Day With Live Virtual Field Trip

On Friday, March 13 at 1 p.m. ET, Discovery Education will celebrate Pi Day with a live virtual field trip to the laboratories of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the federal agency developing and applying technology, measurements, and standards. Offered at no cost to classrooms nationwide, this event will feature leading mathematicians, scientists, and engineers demonstrating how Pi, the numerical value of the ratio of the circumference of a circle, is used in solving everyday problems.

During this 30-minute virtual field trip, students will get a behind-the-scenes look at the NIST facilities, exploring its nanotechnology section, 3D lab, fire research division, and underground labs. Classrooms may register and submit questions for this event at http://www.discoveryeducation.com/PiDay/.

Discovery Education will also offer elementary, middle, and high school resource guides that include pre and post activities and discussion questions to enrich the students’ experience with the virtual field trip.
