This activity provides instructions for using cornstarch and water to make an ooze which has the properties of both a solid and liquid. The behavior of this ooze relates to its viscosity, or resistance to flow. It gets more viscous when you apply a shearing force, such as stirring quickly with your finger or a spoon. Stir it slowly and it will flow more easily. Water's viscosity doesn't change when you apply a shearing force.
