Lightspeed Systems shares best practices for managing iPad deployment

This month, Lightspeed Systems and Tech & Learning hosted a mobile learning webinar: Mobile Device Management: Sanity and Success in an iPad 1:1. The webinar featured former San Diego Unified (SDUSD) Chief Information and Technology Officer Darryl LaGace, who shared his district’s story of a large-scale iPad deployment.

Mr. LaGace shared some best practices based on his experience at SDUSD. His tips include:

•Establish clearly defined goals to lay the foundation for the entire mobile program
•Create professional development model to align mobile program goals with educational outcomes and standards
•Set implementation phases to accommodate both network preparation and teacher training
•Build program capacity by using a select group of leader teachers to help facilitate initiative and train others
•Start program with a small pilot group, then take pilot to full scale when ready
•Devise plan for ongoing support, device maintenance, and app purchasing
•Manage the network and iPads with a solution made specifically for schools
