One of the hottest technologies in schools today is geographical information systems (GIS). This site provides information on all aspects of GIS, including sections on required software, available data, education and training, news and events, as well as a map gallery.

How to use the site:
GIS is a visual mapping tool that permits students and teachers to layer information or data about a place so that understanding can be created. Begin your visit by selecting "What is GIS" to provide a background understanding of the capability of the software. Geography and science teachers should be sure to visit "Try GIS for Yourself" to locate the numerous online map-making tools. Other useful components of the site include a data portal, and a "Education and Training" section. An "Additional Resources" section rounds out a very comprehensive and useful resource on one of the new bleeding edge tools for schools.
